Whether you’ve seen a chiropractor or are making your first trip, you’re likely wondering how your appointment will go. This article will discuss what you can expect from a visit with a chiropractor in Raleigh, NC.

1 Chiropractors will always begin with a consultation or review.

If you’re visiting a chiropractor for the first time, you will undergo an initial consultation. This typically involves completing a health questionnaire where you’ll answer questions about your medical history and your reasons for visiting. For repeat patients, the consultation is generally a review of past visits and a summary of progress made.

2. You will have to undergo a physical exam.

Most chiropractors conduct a physical exam that’s broken up into two parts. The first part consists of evaluations, including reflex testing, muscle strength comparisons, orthopedic and neurological exams, palpation, and range-of-motion tests. This part of the evaluation is typically tailored to address your current complaints. For the second part, the focus is mainly on the spine. The chiropractor will hone in on specific areas relevant to your condition. For example, if you have pain in your lower back, the chiropractor will likely spend time examining your whole spine since injuries in one area of the spine can contribute to similar problems in other parts of the body.

3. You’ll create a treatment plan.

Every treatment plan and chiropractic adjustment is meant to help you tackle your personal goals. If you’re a first-time visitor, you’ll design a treatment plan based on your objectives, level of injury and pain, spine condition, and overall health. The most common treatment plans involve consistent chiropractic care to improve your overall health and well-being or target alleviating pain and discomfort.

4. You’ll have a follow-up plan.

The overarching goal of every treatment plan is to eliminate your pain and help your body return to normal function. The chiropractic adjustments made during your treatment will likely be included in a follow-up plan that you and your chiropractor will discuss together. In general, you will likely require several treatments over several weeks, with each one differing based on your response to past treatments. There may come a point when you may need to modify your follow-up plan to include other treatment options like heat or ice application or electrical stimulation.

5. You’ll likely see benefits from undergoing treatment.

Chiropractic adjustments help treat back, neck, shoulder, TMJ etc. There are also other benefits of chiropractic adjustments, including:

  • Improving your flexibility
  • Relieving your pain
  • Reducing back spasms
  • Lessening your headaches, including migraines
  • Decreasing sciatica or discomfort associated with the sciatic nerve, which controls muscles in your back and legs
  • Decreasing instances of pinched back nerves
  • Reducing pain and stiffness from whiplash
  • wrist, shoulders, TMJ, and also feet
  • decrease stress
  • immune function
